What We Need & What You Get
ABOUT DEWC: The mission of the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for women from all walks of life, who live and/or work in the Downtown Eastside. DEWC operates a low-barrier drop-in centre and emergency night shelter, offering safe, women-only space, supportive surroundings, meals and basic essentials, as well as a continuum of care that nurtures and empowers members towards long-term change.
A COMMUNITY HUB: Hundreds of women access DEWC daily, where they can find hot, nutritious meals, toiletries and clothing, phone and computer access, as well as a safe space and emotional support, or something as simple as (in one member's words) a shoulder to cry on. The drop-in centre is a cornerstone of the Downtown Eastside community, hosting grief and support groups, counselling, arts workshops, healing circles, and meetings for the annual Women's Memorial March, as well as a spectrum of specialized support including HIV case management, victim services, skills development, advocacy, and housing assistance.
The Impact
“A skillfully stylized…wise comment on identity, the violence and inevitability of separation, and the value of both adaptation and detailed self-awareness.”
– The New York Times.
This play tackles all things topical including:
You will be helping a burgeoning new theatre company bring to life an important piece of theatre!

Risks & ChallengesThe ultimate challenge is to create something of outstanding value - to give something meaningful to audiences... to inspire, to cultivate buzz, interest and ultimately to get people actively excited about and engaged in this powerful story.

What We Need & What You Get
- Our work in the arts would not be possible without community support - you make it happen!
- We are raising money for production costs and as an Artist's Collective, we are a group of Union (CAEA) and non-union artists agreeing to bring a play to the public without asking for any salaries. We invest financially in our production and the only payment for our work will be through our share of whatever profits beyond the expenses for the production the show will bring in.
- The funds received are for production costs which include: theatre rental and technician costs, theatre staff (box office, front of house), lighting design, sound design, set design, performance rights, theatre insurance, set and costumes - you will be part of building this production and you will be fully acknowledged on all forms of media related to our production, including social media platforms, in our play program and on our official website: www.soltheatre.weebly.com
- When you donate money to our production and select the perk "Downtown Eastside Women's Centre", we donate half our received amount to the DEWC
- When you donate money you can select perks which include early bird tickets for the production, original art, or the option to donate to Downtown Eastside Women's Centre

Risks & ChallengesThe ultimate challenge is to create something of outstanding value - to give something meaningful to audiences... to inspire, to cultivate buzz, interest and ultimately to get people actively excited about and engaged in this powerful story.
- We are a small independent collective without the support of a major institution - this means: wearing many hats, working really diligently to bring something outstanding to the stage, integrating community in the building of this production, and ultimately creating something meaningful to share with audiences
- As a collective we are undertaking this project at our own risk, because we believe in it as a valuable work of art that should be seen. As artists, who make our living by making art, we are investing in this, working on very limited budgets, but entirely committed to bringing story to life
